BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — The City of Boca Raton is moving forward with a project proposal from a local nonprofit who will redevelop the city’s most iconic amphitheater.
The current amphitheater, nestled on the North end of Mizner Park, has been a staple in the community for decades.
But there was room for improvement, says Andrea Virgin, who is spearheading the project.
“I’m really looking forward to giving back to this community that gave me so much,” Virgin told CBS12 News.
Virgin’s nonprofit is now taking on a $100 million project to upgrade the amphitheater and the vacant parcel next door. This will effectively transform the park’s north end into a massive, mixed-use cultural center, complete with performance and rehearsal space, a six-story parking garage, and even an innovation center where tech startups can come to work.
“This center is really going to create something that’s an opportunity for up-and-coming startups through an incubator program at the center,” board member Matt Cimaglia said.
The nonprofit is still in the final phases of approval from the city and will need to go through lease negotiations and fundraising. They expect the Boca Raton Center for Arts and Innovation to be fully open by 2026.
